Miltons Canteen in Hamilton for Cuisine Magazine

A few weeks ago I was asked to shoot Miltons Canteen in Hamilton for NZ foodie magazine Cuisine.  It’s a cool little café on Alexander Street owned by husband and wife team Michael and Alice Beere.  I loved the inside of it – a modern almost industrial look with a big neon coffee sign taking pride of place, which Michael said used to be a dirty old sign out the front until they revamped it and made a prominent feature inside.  Incredible looking food inside the cabinets as well as on the menu, including the amazing Spicy Friend Beans with Poached Egg and Braised Lamb that I photographed (which you can find the recipe of inside the latest Cuisine) I’ll be back again soon for sure.

The Herbal Dispensary, Raglan

I feel so lucky to live in Raglan, and one of the reasons is having the Herbal Dispensary Shop & Clinic on my doorstep.  Not only do they stock a load of organic food items, including fruit and veges, organic dry goods, baking flours, pasta flour, spices, spreads, organic olive oils, delicious cheeses, yogurts, tofu and tempeh they also have a range of natural skincare and haircare, herbal tea blends, green teas, organic vegetable and herb seeds and seedlings and a unique giftware range.

Their amazing on site clinic with qualified naturopaths is there to help out with any ailment, they can prescribe practitioner only products from their Dispensary or should a more extensive intervention be necessary they can also see you for a private consultation.

Also out the back of their shop is a beautiful herb garden where you can go and relax with one of their delicious juices or smoothies.

They’re also available online, which is handy if you’re after one of their specialised organic items but Raglan’s a bit far to travel to:

Bracu Restaurant in Bombay, Auckland for Nourish Magazine

One of my first jobs for Nourish Magazine was to shoot the Simunovich Olive Estate and Bracu Restaurant.  Simunovich Olive Estate is where they produce premium quality extra virgin olive oil and an extensive range of olive oil based skin care and beauty products.

Bracu Restaurant offers elegant and contemporary fine dining in a truly exceptional setting. Experience the exquisite dishes prepared by talented Head Chef Mikey Newlands with seasonal offerings from the Estate’s own gardens and passionate local producers while you relax on the all-weather verandah or inside the magnificently restyled Kauri villa.

Just 40 minutes from central Auckland, with breathtaking views across the vast olive grove and the rolling pastures of the Bombay Hills, Bracu is Auckland’s finest country restaurant, with lots of onsite activities it’s a great option for weddings and other group functions!

Two Birds Eatery in Hamilton for Nourish Magazine

New Hamilton Café, Two Birds Eatery (Next to the Riv Bar in the Clyde Street Shopping Centre) serves up a wide variety of raw, gluten free and vegan foods, with a real focus on clean eating.  Their famous raw cheesecakes are mouthwatering, and their Mango & Raspberry Cupcakes are amazing.

While I was there I had a Matcha latte, apparently the equivalent to 10 cups of green tea nutritionally, I loved it, and felt a definite boost of energy after drinking it!

Jojo, the owner of Two Birds Eatery was studying holistic nutrition when she started up the Café, and it’s been a huge success since the beginning.

I was sent along to photograph the café, food and its funky rustic décor for the Spring 2015 issue of Nourish Magazine.

Dough Bros in Hamilton for Nourish Magazine

Dough Bros in Hamilton is a new restaurant in town, focusing on food to share – like pizza’s, donuts and sliders.  They have a strong focus on local producers, such as The Manuka Brothers Coffee, and local craft beer Shunters Yard.

Situated in the old Barzurk building on Victoria Street, Hamilton, Dough Bros is not one to be missed.  I was fortunate to photograph them for the Winter 2015 edition of Nourish Magazine.

They gave Nourish their Dough Bros Donuts with Raspberry Coulis recipe, which I was lucky enough to have a taste of when I was there and they were so good!
